Release the tension on side mounted extension springs by lifting the door and locking it in place on each side with a pair of locking pliers.
A garage door generally has two extension springs one on each side of the door and runs parallel to the track.
There are two at either side of the door to help with the tensile strength of each spring even though the extension is separate from one another.
Side mounted extension springs are very easy to change quite safe compared to torsion drive since you work with no spring tension.
One end is a fixedattachment to the garage door track or wood frame.
They extend when the door is lowered and closed and retract as it opens.
Use a c clamp on each track to hold the door.
