How to install a wall light fixture without a box.
Depending on the type of feature you re using you may need to screw the fixture to it.
For example if you have a light fixture that doesn t need a box for mounting but the wiring connections are not protected by some kind of cover then you can t use the fixture without a junction box.

Wrap the wire around the screw then cinch the nut down to hold it.
On a flat surface attach the adjusted chain to the light fixture.
Use chain pliers or pliers with a screwdriver to open the link on the end of the chain.
